Tournament Ticket

The Penn State Icers breathed a collective sigh of relief this morning as the ACHA announced the teams heading to Newark, Delaware next month.
The 16 teams that have qualified for the 2011 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Championships are:

* Lindenwood
* Davenport
* Ohio
* Adrian
* Delaware
* Minot State
* Rhode Island
* Arizona State
* Oklahoma
* Penn State
* Oakland
* Robert Morris Ill.
* Stony Brook (AUTOBID)
* Canton (AUTOBID)
* Slippery Rock (AUTOBID)
* Rutgers(AUTOBID)
The Icers' opening round opponent is yet to be determined. We'll have all of the opening round matchups when they are released.

If there's no change in this list, the Icers would open against #7 Rhode Island and could face #2 Davenport and two-time defending champ Lindenwood in the quarter and semi-finals.

Certainly, the Icers face a tough road to the title game.

Congrats, boys - now go to Rhody and win another ESCHL crown!

UPDATE: I spoke Tuesday, before the release of the final rankings, with a rather circumspect assistant coach Josh Hand. Josh said both he and Scott Balboni know the Icers will have to get better before the tournament, starting with this weekend's ESCHL tourney.
