The King and His Court

No -- I'm not talking about the late barnstorming softball pitcher Eddie Feigner!

In addition to being named one of the three co-captains of this year's Icers team (along with John Conte and Steve Thurston), senior forward Matt Kirstein is a member of Penn State's 2009 Homecoming Court.

Matt had a breakout season in his junior year, finishing 3rd in scoring (behind Tim O'Brien and Lucas DeLorenzo), scoring 17 goals and adding 25 assists in 41 games.  In addition, Matt was +30 in 2008-09, meaning he was on the ice for 30 more goals scored by the Icers than by their opponents.

Not only is he a force on the ice, but he did a pretty good job as my first half analyst during the Blue/White game.  He's already got a job on Wall St. lined up after graduation, but who knows -- could hockey analyst be in the future?

Jaime Zimmel

I heard from Jaimie during the webcast of the Blue/White game on Friday night. Jaime had a tryout with the Rockford Icehogs of the AHL, and has signed with the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL.

Good luck to #14 - hope you stick with the Checkers!

Welcome to the Show

It's hard to believe, but hockey season is here!  And what a season it's going to be as the Penn State Icers mark the 70th anniversary of hockey in Happy Valley.

It's a good time, and long overdue, for me to get this blog off the bench and onto the ice.

I'll be blogging about all things Icers - keeping you up to date on what's happening with the team and the 70th anniversary activities that will culminate with the Alumni Weekend on February 5-6.

The blog will be a work in progress throughout the season.  In the near future, I hope to be able to add video highlights and interviews with the players and coaches.

Once again this season, I'll be calling all the Icers action through our good friends at Fight On State, thanks to the great behind-the-scenes work of FOS webmaster Tom McLaughlin.

Another guy to thank right off the bat is Rodney Martin, aka 'Rodman'.  Rodney is the brains behind the official Icers website, and the other "Voice of the Icers" as the PA announcer at the Greenberg Ice PavilionThere are NHL teams that would be glad to have his talent on the team!

You'll recall that Rodney ran a poll on the website, asking if you'd like us to add video to our webcasts during the upcoming season.  The results were overwhelmingly in favor.  We hope to have some exciting news for you very soon!

Finally, I want to hear from you!  Game time or down time, you can email me or send me an instant message to icersman at Yahoo! Messenger.  In addition, you can drop by my Facebook page.
